  3. Working on week two of a 12 week half marathon program. Will add in hills and some other stuff as I go. Calves are killing me.

  4. I'm going to register us in the next few days for the race. As part of the registration I have to give them a "team average 10K pace". If everyone could give me their best guess I will average them out. We want this to be accurate because the way I understand it the course support is moving throughout the duration of the race - therefore if we get to certain checkpoints too early they will hold the team from continuing and access a penalty or conversely if we are too far behind the expected time we won't have any support. I think we should err on the high side because we are entered as an ultra-team where as most teams have 12 runners who will each be pulling less miles than all of us will. For myself I'm going to use an 8:30 figuring I'll start sub-8:00 and probably end up closer to 10's by the end.

  5. I think I just wet myself.

An average of 39 miles each over 2 days. Boy this sounds great! Starting to train now with half marathon as a starting point. My 10 k pace is probably 8:30 as well. I usually run 7:40/mile to start, then I know I will slow down quite a bit by the 30th mile.

  6. 8:30 sounds good to me! I'd rather incur the penalty than loose support.

  7. No idea. If we're erring high (and keep in mind I am just getting back into this after a long hiatis) put me down for 10:00 min.. Reminder, I can drive faster if needed.....I am alsos CPR trained.

  8. Another housekeeping item - as a team we need to provide 3 volunteers to help staff the race. They need to be willing to work for 4-6 hours. It appears as if they have to do little bullshit like assisting at the aid stations and providing course direction at some checkpoints so runners don't get lost. In exchange for their help they get a race t-shirt, access to any race events and the opportunity to laugh their asses off at us first hand for running farther in 30 or so hours then most people our age run in a year. The alternative is we will have to pay $120 per volunteer that we don't provide - seeing as the team fee for the race is $800 ($160/runner) we can hopefully find people to help out.

    1. That's one...though perhaps we should consider having him on the team and one of us volunteering instead.
